Opel car mechanics in the Liberec area
|
My involvement:
|
Text and photo editing, site structure, web design,
basic optimization
|
Notes:
|
Tom Fidrhel, who runs this repair shop is
a tinkerer as you might expect from a car mechanic, so
working with him was challenging and fun. We added various
tools into the background, the color scheme is bold and
cheerful, but played down
with gray tones and clean fonts. As a result, this site
goes far beyond of what you might expect from an automechanic.
But Tom is always ready to go out of his way for his customers
- including picking them up when their car breaks down
in the middle of the night.

Sister sites of Anitera
o.p.s., a non-profit.
www.anitera.cz presents the organization as such (staff
bios, annual reports etc.) while www.animoterapie.cz presents the subject of animal-facilitated therapies,
services
and volunteers.
|
My involvement:
|
All articles with the exception of signed letters
or reports, some photography, all photo editing, structure,
web design, basic optimization. Logo by Ken Nash.
|
Notes:
|
As a co-founder of this non-profit, these sites were
my full responsibility. We worked for 8 years under the
flag of Helping Paws and in the end of 2008 we established
this new organization which focuses only on animal-assisted
therapies. Most of the content was transferred from the
original www.canisterapie.cz site, but much new content
has been added. The sites are well interconnected and
their design provides a smooth transition from one to
the other.

A small company running unique transportation
services in Prague, around Czech Republic and Europe.
|
My involvement:
|
Content development, photo selection and editing,
site structure, web design, partly translation, basic
optimization
|
Notes:
|
Building on the elements of an existing design, we
developed as full scale site presenting the company's
transportation services. We aimed for straightforward
but fun site. Their unique niche is chaufeurred
private cars, vans and buses for
travelers
coming to Prague.
We added extensive information about various trip destinations
to gain more traffic.

Description:
|
Traditional Irish pub in the heart of
Prague. Stylish decor, authenthic Irish menu.
|
My involvement:
|
A bit of text editing, some photos, map, graphic design
(logo by Ken Nash), basic search engine optimization.
|
Notes:
|
Molly's changed hands in 2008, but the new owners
(being Molly's big fans earlier) made sure to keep all
the things that make this bar special in place. The the
thing that did need a re-vamp was their website, which
got a new design, more texts and went from 5 to 23 pages.

Web site size:

About 15 pages
|
Description:
|
Pharma EU, s.r.o. is a small consulting firm specilizing
in creating package information leaflets and
their translation to all European languages, as well
as other pharmaceutical regulatory consulting services.
|
My involvement:
|
Graphic design, photo selection and editing, site
structure, text editing, basic search engine optimization
and registration.
|
Notes:
|
The original site from 2006 was mainly built
to grab your attention. By 2008, Pharma-EU had matured
as a company and established itself in the industry and
on the web. Reflecting that, we aimed the new site design
for a more streamlined look and very clean lines.

Personal presentation of a unique multitalented
man, a world-record holder, writer
|
My involvement:
|
Web site structure and concept, design, photo selection
and editing, partly texts
|
Notes:
|
Rudi was born
an Aquarius. That might explain why he's multitalented,
why he wrote
a book about his life as a stunt man in action movies,
as well as stories and children's poems. It explains why
he's modeled for TV ads and art photography. But there
is no easy explanation to his world record in jumping into
water from a solid point (nearly 60 meters) and a Czech
record
in the "running of a burning man" (307 meters). Needless
to say this site was a lot of fun to work on.

Description:
|
Rocky o'Reillys Irish Pub and Restaurant
is one of the largest and best-known in Prague.
|
My involvement:
|
Re-design, photo selection and editing, copy
writing or editing texts, site structure, basic
search engine optimization
|
Notes:
|
Rocky's had a Flash-based site that was difficult
for the search engines to find and was out of date.
Only a few elements of the original site survived this
extensive re-design. Unlike most sites, where clients
look for simple, pleasant designs, Rocky's wanted the
site
to be fun and bold.

|
Description:
|
Katka Krycfalusijova is an independent advisor for Oriflame
Swedish Cosmetics. She maintains a network of "Oriflame
ladies"
in the Liberec area. This site covers her activities and
points out the best that Oriflame offers.
|
My involvement:
|
Graphic design, photo selection and editing, copy writing
or editing most texts, site structure, regular search engine
optimization
|
Notes:
|
The design had to follow the corporate Oriflame look
and feel but still be original. Using the idea of the
green
navigation
bar from one of Oriflame's local sites, I added lavender
and camomile to highlight the natural sources of Oriflame
cosmetics.

|

|
Web site size:
|
about 20 pages
|
Description:
|
Since 1989, Tasky.cz (meaning Bags.cz) has been
one of the major producers of plastic bags from recyclable
polyethylene and microten. They specialize in custom
production and advertising printing on bags. The website
showcases
production, product range, company info and prices,
etc.
|
My involvement:
|
Graphic design, all photography, copy writing most
texts, additional text editing, site structure, full
search engine optimization
|
Notes:
|
For this site, I was given a big pile
of plastic bags and the clear message do "Do
something with these." The photography was fun
and quite a challenge. But search engine optimization
was a central issue, so the website is keyword-heavy.
The idea of the menu "printed on
a bag" is not just a cute solution, but a smooth
way to present a series of necessarily long text links.

Description:

Gail Whitmore is an opera singer who, besides opera,
knows over 1000 songs by heart and can sing them a capella.
This website introduces her show The Human Jukebox.
|
My involvement:
|
Graphic design, photo editing, site structure, basic
search engine optimization
|
Notes:
|
This was one of the more fun designs to do. I used
a photo of an actual jukebox and simplified it into
a web jukebox. Even the text background pattern is from
the fabric of the original jukebox. The site also contains
music samples and photos.
|
|
Description:
|
Counselor Gail Whitmore has ample experience in helping
people solve their psychological problems. This site
is devoted to the counseling services she provides in
Prague.
|
My involvement:
|
Graphic design, photo editing, site structure, basic
search engine optimization
|
Notes:
|
This design started off with the tree and bird element
that Gail used on flyers. We decided to incorporate it
here so that the website confirms arrival at the right
spot. Another aim was to create a site that is soothing
and
pleasant, so I implemented water surfaces.

|
Description:
|
Artist Marie Brozova creates large-scale art with
colored pencils. She defends this
often overlooked artistic medium in a series of public
drawing events. The web site presents the resultant
art, includes photo galleries accompanied by Marie's
memories from the events.
|
My involvement:
|
Graphic design (Marie provided the handmade orange
background), marketing advice, photo editing, site
structure, partial texts, basic search engine optimization
|
Notes:
|
Marie's amazing art is powerful by itself, but we
tried to provide a colorful backdrop, which feels like
seeing some portions in real size. In my original
design the pencils, made
from 3D scans of Marie's favorite
Koh-i-Noor pencils, stretched to accomodate variable
size screens and length of content. The site is currently
maintained by another webmaster who changed it into
fixed width design.
|
|
Description:
|
My husband's writing site featuring his extensive
collection social and political commentary. New opinion
columns nearly every day.
|
My involvement:
|
Graphic design, site structure, basic search engine
optimization, RSS feed setup
|
Notes:
|
In 2006, Jim's original Opinion Columns site and its
supporting blog morphed into one blog site, as he decided
to become "a serious blogger." The site is
powered by Typepad.com so the challenge was to use their
system to create a unique design in a dynamic environment
and implement my optimization strategies within its limits.
|
|
Description:
|
A small private school teaching a wide range of language
courses with additional translation services.
|
My involvement:
|
Minimal copy editing, site structure, graphic design
(logo by Ken Nash), basic search engine optimization
|
Notes:
|
Most of us are afraid of learning foreign languages
and most language schools, in the attempt to look professional,
end up with grim web sites. Willie Watson tries to make
his teaching fun and he also wanted his
site to be fun and positive. Because the Watson's delivered
all the texts and translations, we were able to create
a rather large site on a small budget.

Trendy Irish Bar near the embassies in Prague. Warm
atmoshpere, great food & beer. The site includes
a menu, map, contact, etc.
|
My involvement:
|
Copy writing, some photos, map, graphic design (logo
by Ken Nash), basic search engine optimization.
|
Notes:
|
I've based this design on the yellow colorwashed
walls of J.J. Murphy's interior. This bar's motto is "Blending
the tradition of the old with a feeling for the new" and
I tried to do just that. Needless to say it was fun.

Description:

Alchemy Readings and Performance Series runs twice
a month, intrermittently since 2003, with a couple
of years break. It features writers and performers
from
around
the
globe,
each
feature
followed
by an
open-mic of local English language writers and musicians.
The site presents photos, bios, event information etc.
|
My involvement:
|
Copy writing, many photos, all photo editing, site
structure, graphic design (logo and Flash animation
by Ken Nash), basic search engine optimization
|
Notes:
|
Alchemy is another one of "my babies."
Because it's an art site and because Alchemy is mystical,
I had fun with the design. This design was created
in 2005 and waited two years for Alchemy to get
going again. It was finally published in 2007. The
people in the test tubes are past performers and the
thermometer stretches depending on the length
of the page.

Ski
Lucifer

|
2001
|
This version since:
|
2006
|

|
Web site size:
|
over 50 pages
|
Description:
|
Lucifer is a family-owned ski resort in Northern Bohemia.
The website inludes price lists, photo galleries, maps,
tips for trips, descriptions of the area etc.
|
My involvement:
|
All texts, many of the photos, photo editing, graphic
design (logo by Ken Nash), animations, site structure,
marketing advice, targeted search engine optimization.
|
Notes:
|
Over the years, Lucifer grew and improved.
The ski-lifts are faster, the ski rentals providea wide
range of equipment. It was time to redesign this site
and update it's look and feel. Beside the information
about the ski hill's services, accomodation, pub and
ski rentals, we included much general information
about the area and tips for trips. This allows more exposure
in search engines and provides users with valuable information.
|
|
Description:
|
The first Czech non-profit organization training assistance
dogs for the physically impaired. The site inludes photo
albums, profiles of trained dogs, simple shop, extensive
section
on canine therapy, records of activities, etc.
|
My involvement:
|
All texts, many photos, all photo editing, site structure,
graphic design (except logo, which was a collaboration),
company brand and marketing strategies, basic search
engine optimization
|
Notes:
|
As Helping Paws' co-founder, this site
is personal. It is one of the biggest sites of it's kind
on Czech
internet. It's currently maintained by a programmer who
also provides the hosting.
|
|
Description:
|
A family run breeding station for Labrador Retrievers
in Eastern Bohemia. Includes extensive photo albums of
puppies, information for those planning to buy a dog,
advice for dog owners, order-form for dog food etc.
|
My involvement:
|
All copy writing, photo editing, site structure, graphic
design, targeted search engine optimization
|
Notes:
|
Besides the new dog food ordering system, structure
and look, one of the best improvements was the advice
section,
where the breeder answers questions from dog owners.
Search engines love the keyword-rich content, users love
the free, professional advice. The site was also moved
to a new domain.
|
|
Description:
|
My husband's writing site. It includes samples from
his novels, extensive collections of poetry, plays, screenplays,
travelogues, etc. In 2005, his opinion columns were
moved to their own site.
|
My involvement:
|
Graphic design, site structure, targeted optimization
|
Notes:
|
This new incarnation of Jim Freeman's
PragueWriter site features a cleaner look, strong colors
and a simple structure. The rankings in search engines
improved dramatically due to these changes.
|
|
Description:
|
An online fine Czech crystal shop I co-own with my
husband. To be able to provide US-side safe credit card
transfers,
we opted to use a third-party shopping cart with integrated
credit card processing - CCNow. The online store includes
detailed product photos and descriptions, shopping suggestions,
information about the history of Czech crystal, etc.
|
My involvement:
|
All product photos, texts, graphic design, site structure,
advanced search engine optimization. All in cooperation
with my husband.
|
Notes:
|
This new FeelBohemian.com design focuses on integrating
the interface of a third-party shopping cart provider
- CCNow. We used the same background colors and similar
elements to create a more seamless user experience.
